Nev here – welcoming all our sofa sailors back on board Two Drifters for our next adventure 🙂
It’s been a very long and stressful two months since we first tried to sail to Fiji – you may remember, in June, we had to abort our mission just 24 hours in due to rigging failure. Obtaining the new parts in French Polynesia and getting them fitted took a lot longer than expected. Since then, we’ve also been waiting for a good weather window for our sail.
New rigging all in place – just need to add the headsail
But I can confirm, our brand-new rigging is glinting in the sunshine, the final safety checks have been carried out, our pre-departure PCR covid tests are negative and we’re keeping our fingers crossed that the weather plays ball. So it’s time to buckle up as…on Thursday… Two Drifters is off Fiji!
Join us on this 1,800-nautical mile adventure as we expect to take the northerly route from Tahiti to Fiji, by-passing the beautiful Cook Islands, Samoa and American Samoa. In normal times, we would have enjoyed stopping off at these islands, but sadly their borders remain closed and so it’s a non-stop, 12 to 14-night sail to Fiji.
You can track us and see our wind and boat speed on https://forecast.predictwind.com/tracking/display/TwoDrifters .
I’ll be blogging regularly but, as we can’t access our Facebook page, our lovely land crew (Debbie and Jay) will look after it while we’re sailing and will pass on your messages and questions to us via satellite email. So please do keep in touch as we always love hearing back from you, especially when on passage.
So glad to have you on board with us again!
The Bridge – this will be our sofa sailing seat for the next two weeks!
